Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large peach – Fresh, ripe peaches work best for this recipe, providing a juicy, sweet base for the dumplings.
  • 1 (8-ounce) 8-count tube of refrigerated crescent rolls – These are the secret to making this dessert super easy. Crescent rolls puff up beautifully when baked, creating a buttery, flaky shell around the peach.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted – This adds richness and flavor to the dumplings and forms part of the delicious sugary sauce.
  • 3/4 cup sugar – Regular granulated sugar is used to add sweetness to the dumplings and their sauce.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon – Cinnamon enhances the flavor of the peach and adds warmth and spice.
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour – This is combined with the butter and sugar to thicken the sauce and make it stick to the dumplings.
  • 3/4 cup lemon-lime soda – The soda is poured into the pan, and as it bakes, it helps form a bubbly, syrupy sauce that complements the peaches and crescents.

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven:

Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This will ensure that it’s nice and hot when you’re ready to bake the dumplings.

2. Prepare the Baking Dish:

Lightly spray an 8×8-inch glass baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. This prevents the dumplings from sticking to the pan and makes cleanup easier later on.

3. Slice the Peach:

Take your large peach and peel it. Cut it into eight wedges, making sure to discard the pit. This gives you the perfect amount of peach to wrap in each crescent roll.

4. Roll the Crescent Rolls:

Open the tube of refrigerated crescent rolls and unroll the dough. Take one peach wedge and place it on the wide end of one of the crescent rolls. Carefully roll it up, making sure the peach is well-wrapped. Place the rolled dumpling in the prepared baking dish. Repeat this process with the remaining peach wedges and crescent rolls.

5. Make the Cinnamon-Sugar Sauce:

In a small bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, cinnamon, and flour. Stir the ingredients until they’re just combined. This will create a sugary, buttery sauce that will soak into the dumplings while they bake, adding richness and flavor.

6. Spoon the Sauce Over the Dumplings:

Spoon the cinnamon-sugar mixture over each crescent roll. This ensures that every dumpling is covered with the sweet sauce, which will help it caramelize during baking.

7. Add the Lemon-Lime Soda:

Carefully pour lemon-lime soda into the empty spaces between the dumplings in the pan. Be careful not to pour it directly on top of the dumplings, as you want the soda to create a bubbly sauce beneath them.

8. Bake the Dumplings:

Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the crescents are golden brown and the peach filling is tender. The soda will bubble up around the dumplings, forming a syrupy sauce that adds an extra layer of sweetness.

9. Serve and Enjoy:

Once baked, remove the dumplings from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Choosing the Right Peach: Make sure your peach is ripe and juicy, as an under-ripe peach won’t release enough juice during baking. If you can’t find fresh peaches, canned peaches in syrup can be used as a substitute.
  • Avoid Overfilling the Crescent Rolls: Don’t stuff the crescent rolls too much, as this can cause them to burst open while baking. A slice or two of peach in each crescent is perfect!
  • Watch the Baking Time: Keep an eye on the dumplings as they bake. You want the crescents to turn golden brown, but make sure the peach inside is tender without being mushy.
  • Serving Ideas: For a decadent twist, drizzle some caramel sauce or a dusting of powdered sugar on top before serving. You could also add a sprinkle of chopped nuts like almonds or pecans for some crunch.
  • Substitute Tools: If you don’t have a small bowl for the sauce, you can use a regular mixing bowl. Just make sure to stir the ingredients thoroughly to avoid clumps of flour.
