Ingredients

  • Salmon (1.5 lb)
  • Paprika (1 tsp)
  • Garlic powder (1 tsp)
  • Onion powder (1 tsp)
  • Salt (3/4 tsp)
  • Pepper (1 tsp)
  • Olive oil (3 tbsp)
  • Minced garlic (2 tsp)
  • Grated ginger (1 tsp)
  • Soy sauce (3 tbsp)
  • Rice vinegar (2 tbsp)
  • Honey (1/4 cup)
  • Sesame seeds (2 tsp)
  • Chives (2 tsp)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Salmon (The Salmon Setup): Pat dry the salmon cubes with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Season them with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  • Massage the Salmon (The Massage Method): Pour about a tablespoon of olive oil over the seasoned salmon cubes and gently massage the oil into the fish. This helps the seasoning adhere and adds moisture.
  • Sear the Salmon (The Searing Strategy): Heat a heavy skillet with a tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the salmon cubes in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Cook for 4-5 minutes, flipping them often, until they are crispy and golden on all sides.
  • Transfer the Salmon (The Transfer Technique): Transfer the cooked crispy salmon cubes to a plate, leaving any rendered fat in the skillet. Cook the remaining salmon cubes in the same manner.
  • Sauté Garlic and Ginger (The Sauté Step): To the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger and sauté for about a minute, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Make the Glaze (The Glaze Generation): Stir in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and honey. Simmer the sauce for 3-5 minutes, or until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  • Toss the Salmon (The Tossing Technique): Transfer the crispy salmon cubes back to the skillet and toss them well with the honey garlic glaze, ensuring they are thoroughly coated.
  • Check Seasoning (The Seasoning Check): Check the seasoning of the salmon bites and adjust as needed. Add more salt, pepper, or soy sauce to taste.
  • Serve (The Serving Sensation): Serve the honey garlic salmon bites immediately over rice, quinoa, or your preferred grain. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped chives.

Notes

  • Don’t overcook salmon.
  • Simmer glaze to thicken.
  • Use fresh ginger.
